May 21, 2008 -  23,826 Miles: The Metzeler 880 tires finally wore out, so we replaced them and performed some other minor maintenance.

June 29, 2007 -  20,190 Miles: We performed a partial 24k service and replaced a torn "donut" gasket we found once we took the left valve cover off.

June 9, 2007 - 19,879 Miles: Time for an overdue fluid change.

April 26, 2007 - 10,896 Miles: Cross-Country BMW in Metuchen performed the rest of the 12,000 mile service and checked for any open recalls, of which there were none. The wheel circuit, control circuit, and hydraulic clutch fluids were changed. New Metzeler ME880 Marathon tires were mounted and balanced, replacing the balding original Michelins. Finally, we changed the oil, transmission, and final drive fluids ourselves, replacing the stock oil drain plug with a new Wunderlich magnetic oil drain plug in the process.

April 18, 2007 - 10,734 Miles: More prep for the upcoming cross country trip! The once nude R now sports an enormous 52-liter Givi topcase, complete with factory installed integrated brake lights, sitting atop Givi's own stout luggage rack. Up front, we added a Cee Bailey's 7" headlight guard. We also performed a partial 12k service.

March 28, 2007 - 10,481 Miles: In preparation for our upcoming cross country tour in May, the R1150R received a set of new BMW System Cases, dressed up in Motoequip's black 3M reflective vinyl tape kit for a little added conspicuity during night riding.

March 13, 2007 - 10,447 Miles: We installed a Kisan Technologies P115W-S headlight modulator to increase conspicuity. To mount the daylight sensor, I drilled the headlight shell with the requisite 25/64" bit. All fits and works flawlessly.

December 23, 2006 - 9,965 Miles: Terri's bike received some new Christmas goodies. First, we replaced the original and very tired BMW Gel battery in the bike with a new Hawker Energy Genesis XE16X model. We use these Hawkers at work in our military UPS Systems, and it is very similar to the vaunted "Odyssey" battery Hawker sells for motorcycles. The battery features a metal casing for extreme durability against shock and vibration, as well as extended operation up to 60 degrees Celsius. Expected lifecycle is 8-10 years rated at 25 degrees ambient. This is about double what you would see out of the Exide gel cells normally sold by BMW for the bike. Our controller here at work has had one in his Harley since 1997, and it's still going strong! And best of all, it was free!! Perks of the job.... I added a separate independently fused 20A accessory socket to the battery as well, to free up the BMW socket for multiple accessories. Next, we added some CSS Tank Pads, a Bob's BMW sidestand foot, a nice 3-D Roundel logo for the rear fender, and a Pyramid "Fenda Extenda" up front.

November 27, 2006 - 9,864 Miles: The PIAA H4 bulb's low beam blew on the way home from upstate NY this past weekend. It was about 3 years old, and spent most of its life in my old Sportster, so it's a forgivable offense. We replaced the PIAA with a conventional Osram of stock wattage (55/60W) I had lying around.

November 22, 2006 - 8,850 Miles: The naked Beakster is naked no more - Terri treated herself to a standard height Aeroflow Touring Half Fairing (all clear) in conjunction with a set of Moto-Techniques Bar-Backs for more comfortable long distance riding.

November 1, 2006 - 8,737 Miles: A faulty right-side heated grip was replaced under warranty.

September 22, 2006 - 6,940 Miles: We installed a Bead Rider 14"x14" pad to increase comfort on longer rides. So far, it has been effective in reducing "hot spots." It's a little big, though. A 13"x13" would have been a better choice.

August 11, 2006 - 6,434 Miles:  Time for a fluid change! Everything went according to the service manual, nice and easy.

August 4, 2006 - 6,404 Miles Cross-Country BMW in Metuchen performed a partial 6,000 mile service and checked for any open recalls, of which there were none. We are going to perform a fluid change ourselves in the next couple of days.

July 27, 2006 - 6,317 Miles: Practicality calls! Terri decided a luggage rack was in order so she could carry some stuff around. Also, we installed a set of BMW's cylinder head guards "just in case," and finally we added a PIAA Platinum White H4 bulb we had lying around the garage to replace the stock Osram bulb for better visibility.

July 8, 2006: Silver 2004 BMW R1150R picked up with 5,234 original miles. This is one FUN motorcycle to ride! No modifications or additions are planned at the moment, but a 6,000 mile service is rapidly approaching.
